ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
During this workshop, we will explore how to create autonomous sound instruments that feed on the energy in their surroundings. The workshop aims to introduce the participants to the area of self-powered devices and off-grid electronic machines.
Through a historical lens, we will look back at anachronous technologies such as Crystal Radios and other domestic devices that do not need more than they can harvest from their habitats. The workshop aims to introduce the participants to the basic notions of radio technology, electronic transmission, reception and amplification.
The theoretical part will be preceded by a practical exercise in which each participant will be guided after a diagram to solder and customize an instrument. The Harvester Bugs instruments capture Electromagnetic and Radio-magnetic waves that they can find in their proximity and amplify them using solar power. Their sounds are sensitive and interdependent to their external environment. Through a collective sound walk, we will discover and gather inconspicuous noises from our urban habitats.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ioana Vreme Moser (b. 1994) is a Romanian sound artist engaged with hardware electronics, speculative research, and tactile experimentation.
In her practice, she uses rough electronic processes to obtain different materialities of sound. She places electronic components and control voltages in different situations of interaction with her body, organic materials, lost and found items, and environmental stimuli. From these collisions, synthesized sounds emerge to carry personal narrations and observations on the history of electronics, their production chains, wastelands, and entanglements in the natural world.
She has been closely engaged with the Electroacoustic Music Studio Krakow (PL), kinema ikon multimedia Atelier Arad (RO), and Simultan, Media Art Association, Timisoara (RO). Currently, she lives and works in the T10 artist community in Berlin.
Amongst others, she has performed and exhibited at the National Gallery of Denmark (DK), Fonderie Darling (CA), Akademie der Künste Berlin (DE); Manifesta 14 (XK); SFX – Sound Effects Seoul (KR), Ars Electronica (AT), Bunkier Sztuki Gallery Krakow (PL); Simultan Festival (RO); Eigen+Art Lab – Transmediale, Berlin (DE).
Cluster is a new-music series devoted to the investigation of sound and notation, which provides musicians and composers with an exchange area in Berlin-Treptow, at the crossroad of compositional and performance practices.
Labor Neunzehn is an artist-run project engaged in a cross-disciplinary discourse on time-based-art that involves expanded cinema, modern music, publishing, and the critical reflection in media art, with a specific focus on the migration of these languages between the online and offline domains. As an independent curatorial platform and a non-profit initiative for the production of research projects, exhibitions, performances, workshops, we are committed to the presentation of collaborative outcomes and hybrid formats.
Labor Neunzehn constantly extends own curatorial concepts with the aim of opening up spaces for experimentation and discovery, fostering bottom-up community building, as well as endorsing interdisciplinary exchange between art practitioners, institutions, and audience in Berlin.
The project CLUSTER is generously supported by Initiative Neue Musik Berlin / field notes and Dezentrale Kulturarbeit Berlin-Treptow
